Welcome to my first update on the current progress of God’s work in my life.
Thank you all for the blessing you have all been in my Christian walk and the understanding you
have shown to my latest calling in my life.
I truly believe that God has given me a heart for the Christian charity Mercy Ships and wants me to serve with them in West Africa on board the Africa Mercy.
The charity was started in 1978 by a man called Don Stephens who was instructed by God to buy a boat so that it can be turned into a medical ship. The ship would be crewed entirely by volunteers’ who would pay to spend time doing God’s work.
The Crew of the Africa Mercy are still working tirelessly in West Africa performing Medical procedures, Teaching, providing local support for things like making wells, building schools, etc.

What’s New
I have been struggling with a few things over the last few months with regards to this mission’s trip. This is quiet a daunting task for me sure I’m used to moving around the country and having to make new friends but Newcastle and The House have been a home and a place where I felt at peace and connected.
As I have been preparing for this missions trip that God has provided I find myself dealing with issues in my life and in my relationships with people.
While having to ask other people for help is not something is not easy for me but here I’m having to ask people (my extended family (the church)) for help with what God has called me to do. I thank the people who have approached me and said they would like to help.
The greatest areas of need I have for this trip is pray not just for me but for Mercy ships and the crew of the Africa Mercy for these people will be my community for the time I’m with them. It’s funny that we as a church have communion community and commission on the wall and the church sign, I know that we are trying to be better at these things and I asked God in my prayers to make me better in these things so he’s taking me away from The House to a very tight Community to fulfill his commission while in communion with him. As I once was told “when you’re on a ship, don’t upset anyone as there is nowhere to run or hide”
I feel blessed that God has chosen me to serve the community of the church over the years and now he’s moving me on to anew task.
The mission’s trip will involve travelling to 3 countries for different period of time.
The first country in West Africa is Sierra Leone

The first country in West Africa is Sierra Leone; ‘From the bottom of the table of nations ranked by the United Nations Human Development Index, Sierra Leone is now placed at 158 among 169 countries surveyed. There has been substantial economic growth in recent years, but the major challenges continue to be poverty and unemployment. The country possesses substantial mineral, agricultural and fishery resources, but there is inequality in income distribution. Nearly half of the working age population is engaged in subsistence agriculture.
The population is 5.2 million, of whom it is estimated as many as 70 per cent live below the poverty line. Life expectancy is 46 years, while the median age of the population is 19. More than 40% of the population is under the age of 14. Only 35% of the people can read and write. The infant mortality rate is high. Almost one in five children dies before reaching the age of five. There is a very high risk of major infectious diseases, and it is estimated there more than 50 thousand people living with HIV/AIDS. According to the World Health Organization, there are two physicians per 100,000 people.’

For many people in West Africa the Africa Mercy is much more than just a ship its hope and sometimes more often than not it’s the last hope they have. Treating people with tumors\cleft palates\cataracts. But at the centre of all this is God the Greatest of all Healers.
